For my Father
January 13, 2009

I brought this book as a gift for my Dad, he can't stop talking about or reading it. "Mom says he never listen to her because he's got his nose stuck in the book." He enjoys civil war history, this was a perfect gift. Thanks Vickie...

Civil War fought over slavery?
December 04, 2008

One never ceases to be amazed by those who cannot accept that a primary issue of contention during the Civil War centered on slavery. This is an excellent introductory work that is well organized and holds the reader's attention with vivid drawings and photographs. Those that believe slavery was not an issue can skip those pages and still enjoy Kagan and Hyslop's effort.

Visually Fascinating Overview
November 18, 2008

This book is filled with colorful illustrations from the Civil War era and can be enjoyed for the pictures alone. It might not hold the attention of those who study that conflict, but it would be an outstanding volume for introducing older children and other newcomers to the story of the Civil War.
