While the names of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt resonate powerfully with Americans, the Oval Office has been occupied by a wildly diverse group of individuals—many of whom, unfortunately, have been paid scant attention by history. A powerful remedy to these omissions, Jon Roper’s The Complete Illustrated Guide to the Presidents of America is a fascinating guide to the 44 statesmen elected to the highest-ranking political office in the U.S. government.
This magnificently illustrated volume presents each president within the context of his times, from James Madison’s commitment to framing the Bill of Rights to Bill Clinton’s championing of NAFTA. It’s also an insightful primer on the changing role of the president, from that envisaged by America’s Founding Fathers to the wide-ranging executive powers of the office today.
Updated with the results of the November 2008 presidential election, and graced with more than 500 stunning photographs, fine art paintings, contemporary sketches, watercolors and maps, The Complete Illustrated Guide to the Presidents of America is a timely and fitting tribute to our chief executives.

I found this book enjoyable to read and filled with interesting tidbits of presidential trivia. The content was just right and would peak your interest in any president allowing you to seek out in depth bios for each. Provided just enough information to give the reader a good foundation for each president, especially the lesser know or notable chief executives. Well illustrated and noted. Recommended.

I found this book packed with information never before seen in any previously owned books on presidents.
I not only have my copy, but have bought two more for my grand daughters. I recommended this book to our local librarian and also to my teacher friends.

This is a very complete book if you want a large "thumbnail" sketch of the presidents and with many pages of historical events making it come alive.
However, although I have not finished reading all, I did notice some errors, especially captions for illustrations (for example, a painting of the Battle of Gettsburg captioned as the Battle of Bull Run). It does seem it was edited and published in a hurry.
In fact, as a member for over twenty years I am noticing more History Club books that are somewhat innaccurate (hurried research and scholarship) or poorly written....
