The Price of Politics

The acclaimed author of national bestsellers ranging from All the President’s Men to Obama’s Wars, Bob Woodward has long ranked among our most astute and fearless investigative journalists. Now, in The Price of Politics, Woodward returns with an unprecedented glimpse at the Obama administration’s struggle for control of the American economy.

Based on 18 months of intensive reporting, The Price of Politics looks at how President Obama and Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress have grappled with the key issue of the presidential and congressional campaigns, and the most important problem facing the nation: the state of the American economy and the federal government’s precarious fiscal condition. Woodward covers a period of three-and-a-half years—between 2009 and the summer of 2012—with a special focus on the 44-day crisis in summer 2011 when the country came perilously close to defaulting on its debt.

Drawing on interviews with the president himself and other key administration officials, as well as internal memos, letters, meeting notes, and emails, Woodward offers verbatim, day-by-day, even hour-by-hour accounts of how the nation’s business is conducted at the highest level.

It took me a while to read this book by Bob Woodward. Reading this was the same as reading "Obama's Wars". "Price of Politics has come out at a good time, considering what the Congress and the White House are fixing to get into. Mr. Woodward gives us a very good view of what is fixing to occur in Washington, D.C.
